Acoustic Attire Thesis Highlights
Acoustic Attire: Storytelling Through Sound and Costumes was an exploration of how sound design and costume design can collide in a creative, innovative way. As an honors thesis contracted through the University of Memphis Helen Hardin Honors College, I designed two different concepts, BONE and BLADE. In order to combine sound design and costume design, I created both costumes and associated themed soundscapes, installing speakers into the dresses themselves, so that when a viewer approached the costumes, they could hear the themed soundscapes and be immersed in both the character and the world I evoked through my designs.
BONE
Sound Design and Costume Design
BONE evokes the world of a tomb, hauntingly ethereal in peaceful decay. Moss grows over rough stone dripping with moisture. Rot festers in whispering hallways. An anonymous skeleton, adorned with what was once luxurious finery, laid to rest.
BLADE
Sound Design and Costume Design
BLADE embodies the scene of a battle, viciously shining in a passionate clamor. Desperate soldiers swing glimmering swords, fighting for one more heavy breath. War chants ring clear through the haze of battle. An anonymous soldier, weighed down by the heavy armor, stands shoulder-to-shoulder with other silver warriors.
