A Bit About Me

My name is Lyz Rieger, and I am both a Sound Designer and a Costume Designer. I am from the greater Nashville, Tennessee area. My passion for the theatrical arts sprouted up in middle school, when I watched the middle school play put on in the school’s cafeteria. One of my best friends played the lead female role. I was a socially awkward kid, but my love for fantasy and the arts ran wild. I read as many books as I could get a hold of, and I loved to draw and daydream. So, for me, signing up for the middle school play seemed like a good opportunity to let my creative mind flourish. I continued my theatrical acting journey all the way through my senior year of high school, progressively improving my craft. I did a little bit of design and tech work here and there, but I was first and foremost an actor. After my senior year, however, I decided to step away from the performance side of theatre. I had planned to delve into the world of voice acting, but through a friend, I instead found passion in sound design. Joining the University of Memphis’s Theatre Program, I originally intended to do exclusively sound. During an offhanded intro costume class, however, I was given a design opportunity, and realized how much I loved it. Ever since then, I’ve joint-pursued both sound design and costume design.

I am a self-proclaimed Jack-of-All-Trades. I even have a tattoo commemorating my generalist tendencies. I adore sound design, and I am always desperate to work on and learn about sound. I love costume design too, and I find the abstract nuances of it exhilarating. As often as I get asked, I could never choose my favorite between the two. Even voice acting, if it became available to me, or if I made it available to myself, I’d be thrilled to dive back into the performance world (albeit not on the live stage anymore). I have an inexplicable passion for what I do. I strive for excellence, and I pour my heart into my craft.
