Emerge - Symbiosis
Lighting Designer
As Lighting Designer for the University of Memphis's production of Emerge's Symbiosis piece, I created a lighting story with the overarching theme of "a bug colony discovering that their problems are not as big as they may seem". Initial inspiration and programming implementation within the space, as well as tracking paperwork, was also completed by me.

As Lighting Designer for the University of Memphis's production of Home, I created a lighting story with the overarching theme of "body as the home", specifically exploring notions of light from within. Initial inspiration and programming implementation within the space, as well as tracking paperwork, was also completed by me.

The Wine Festival
Theoretical Lighting Design
As a theoretical lighting design, I created this look inspired by a lively, exciting wine festival on a summer night. The concept was to evoke a sense of warmth and comfort with warm toned lights and fairy light practicals, as well as creating an inviting party atmosphere with the bright, neon pink light. I also implied the wine theme by utilizing pinks as well as subtle blues to give an impression of warm pinks and purples.
Prompt: "It's a warm summer night in Northern California wine country. You are at a Festival of the Grape, a party atmosphere to say the least. Lots of music, food, and rides for the kids. You are sitting in a tent drinking the best glass of wine you have ever had.
The Market
Theoretical Lighting Design
As a theoretical lighting design, I created this look inspired by a monotonous market at sunset. With my lighting design of The Market, I portrayed a sense of harshness and near-oppressiveness with the blueish fluorescent top lighting. The sunset streams in from stage right, painting the side of the figure in warmth, evoking more of a sense of comfort and wonder.
Prompt: "You're shopping at the local market, being assaulted by the harsh glare of fluorescent lights. Suddenly, you turn and view out the west window of the market the color left by a sunset that has illuminated the sky in a manner that cannot be described in human terms. You stand, you stare, you turn away, and you can't define what you just saw."

Wonder
Theoretical Lighting Design
I was drawn to the purple wonder element of this conceptual dance pose because the dancer is positioned in such a way that they looked to be reaching toward something. I wanted to reinforce that idea of “reaching in wonder” by having a high-intensity, high transmission bright purple light for the performer to reach toward, and a low-intensity, low-transmission dark purple light to be chasing the performer.
I chose purple specifically because purple has somewhat of a magical, curiously unnatural quality to it.
Anxiety
Theoretical Lighting Design
I was drawn to the red anxiety element of this conceptual dance pose because the dancer is positioned in such a way that they looked to be shielding themselves or shying away from something. I wanted to reinforce that idea of “shielding from anxiety” by having an aggressive red pursuing the performer where they are shielding themself, dark ominous reds blanketing the floor, and a low side highlight sculpting the form for visibility.
I chose red specifically because red has an urgent, almost commanding nature to it.
